Hello everyone,
This week, AI jumped from the front page of the tech section to the front page of politics. A drama in three acts played out between a startup, a tech giant and the White House, exposing the fundamental tension between ethics and power. That is what we are going to decode.

Ethics vs Power: Anthropic says no to the military, OpenAI takes the contract
The facts: Overnight from Friday to Saturday, President Trump ordered the entire US administration to stop using Anthropic's AI. The reason: the startup refused to remove its ethical safeguards banning the use of its AI for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons, despite a $200M contract with the Pentagon. A few hours later, Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) announced he had picked up the contract, claiming to uphold the same red lines.
The Codito analysis: This is a moment of truth for the industry. On one side, Anthropic, sacrificing a major contract in the name of its founding principles. On the other, OpenAI, which, despite its CEO's statements, is perceived as more flexible on ethics in order to secure its growth. Altman's controversial reputation in Silicon Valley does not work in his favour. The affair lays bare the conflict between stated values and commercial imperatives.
What it means for you: For a business, choosing an AI partner is no longer just a technology decision — it is a political and ethical one. Working with a player that compromises on its values means risking damage to your own reputation. The reliability of an AI partner is also measured by its ethical backbone.

Is your software a fortress or a platform?
Many companies are trapped in closed software: rigid systems that are impossible to connect to other tools. The result: no automation, no AI, costly manual processes and a loss of competitiveness.
At Codito, we audit software estates and the conclusion is often the same: favour open software. A piece of software is 'open' if it has an API (Application Programming Interface), a kind of documented 'door' that lets you communicate with it. Thanks to an API, you can automate tasks and, above all, plug in AI systems to multiply the power of the tool.
Technologies such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) go even further, allowing AI agents to talk directly to these APIs. Choosing open software is the sine qua non for building an agile, AI-ready business.

Why Codito is walking away from OpenAI
This week's news confirmed a strategic decision for us: Codito Ergo Sum is ceasing to use OpenAI's models for its own systems and for the solutions we build for our clients.
Our name, 'Codito Ergo Sum', is a tribute to Descartes' 'Cogito'. It anchors our identity in a way of thinking that goes beyond mere technique. We believe AI is a societal phenomenon that engages our responsibility.
Anthropic's stance, aligned with strong ethical principles, matches our values. We choose to support a player that has proven it is willing to stand by its convictions, even under immense pressure. It is a choice of consistency, trust and long-term vision. From now on, we will favour Anthropic and other models that share this commitment.
